Krista's partner Kristi (I call them "K2", lol) contacted me to ask if I might be willing to work with them on a butterfly cover up tattoo for Krista's upper right arm.
After meeting them and doing a consultation, for which they were both super prepared (my favorite!) and looking at her old tattoo in person, I said I would be delighted to help.
Kristi wrote a prose poem for Krista about her project: "Scars. Physical and psychological.
Texture of a time that has past. A time that has died.
She looks in the mirror. Close up. Stands back. The scar looks the same and evokes pain.
Silk. To a Lotus floating by. The thread is held within a nurturing space by a steady hand. Safe. Weeks pass and the chrysalis shows the metamorphosis has begun. Old colors fade and the outline of a new beginning emerges.
Movement. Color. A giggle. The wings dry. She takes flight."
Here are some photos of the drawing, before, outline and gray shading, and the very, very fresh final tattoo color stages.
